Allow me to make my comment in English. The raw-feeding movement here in the States is gaining momentum, as I understand it, it's becoming more and more fashionable to feed a scientifically devised and finely balanced diet of raw ingredients to pampered pets.

Personally, I find the scientific weightiness of the whole affair rather amusing. I'm thinking of the possible reaction to the same of the hounds keeper at a medieval castle, and somehow the picture of a man laughing himself silly comes to mind. It would be better than the incomprehensible idea of feeding his treasured hounds corn-based dry kibbles with unidentifiable added ingredients, true, but nevertheless something of a joke.

At what point in history did mankind come up with the idea that common sense should be discarded in favor of convoluted scientific theories? Do we feel like better animal keeper/pet parents if we can point to records of (company) research that explain why we're doing so good feeding Fluffy ground corn and soy, or, in these changing times, brand-name meat particular sold for pets?

I'm fully aware that Europe isn't conducive to hunting and wild food gathering - neither are American city environments -, but it seems to me that there's more to the blind reliance on scientific justification for what the civilized do for (or to) their pets than the lack of simple food procurement opportunities. I mean, face it... there's no industry, no market, no money to be made in truly natural, down-to-earth, honest-to-goodness pet food. And for the civilized soul who does the feeding, why, it'd be too raw, too natural for comfort.

I've conversed with civilized people who are all-out in favor of a finely balanced BARF diet. They generally are revolted by the mere idea of someone going out into his backyard and killing a rabbit or chicken for today's doggie dinner. THE POOR BUNNY!! THE POOR HEN!! No, they couldn't stand that - they want their raw food to come nicely packaged, unrecognizable as a formerly live animal, with a scientific label of values and vitamins attached to the plastic.

I suppose that it takes a lot of civilized people to continue to support the pet supplies industry no matter which feeding method is en vogue. And I suppose that there'll always be the ones who just shake their heads at the fashions and scientific "discoveries" and continue to feed their dogs whatever dead animal, whole or in parts, is handy. And frankly, fresh venison, porcupine, bear meat or a backyard chicken beats industrially-grown and processed domestic meat any day.

I feed a truly organic, all-natural raw diet to my dogs and cats, but it's not scientific in the least. What version do YOU feed, scientific or truly natural?
